KTC Logistics, representing Guatemala in the Motion Logistics Network, has completed a significant logistical project, successfully transporting 30 x 40 HC containers and 3 x 40 FR with out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo to an industrial zone in Guatemala City. The cargo comprised industrial packaging printing machines, raw materials, and related accessories. The OOG cargo included stationary printing machines measuring 10.57 meters in length, 2.87 meters in width, and 3.75 meters in height, weighing up to 21 metric tons. These machines were critical for the consignee’s operations in printing packaging materials at their facility in Guatemala City.

The project began at the plant in Trinidad and Tobago, where KTC Logistics was assisted by a trusted local partner. After dismantling and loading the cargo in suitable HC containers for Ocean Freight, the cargo was shipped from the Port of Point Lisas in Trinidad and Tobago and reached Guatemala at the Port of Barrios under CFR terms. Given the sheer volume of the project, specialized equipment was essential for this project. Forklifts with capacities of 5, 7, 10, and 15 metric tons, as well as cranes capable of lifting up to 80 metric tons, were employed to handle the cargo. For overland transportation, 2 and 3-axle lowboys and 40-foot platforms were used. Once the cargo was delivered to the client’s plant in Guatemala, the machinery was also reassembled.

The cargo's oversized dimensions and substantial weight presented several challenges. In Trinidad and Tobago, police escorts ensured public traffic control during transportation. In Guatemala, guiding cars safeguarded the convoy until it arrived at the final destination. To protect the machinery from moisture and potential damage, KTC Logistics implemented an in-house crating process, preventing dents and water damage.
Adhering to the client's strict timelines was a key priority for the project. KTC Logistics meticulously planned the operation, ensuring timely delivery. This enabled the client to commence production and fulfill contract terms with their end customers. The detailed planning and efficiency were particularly crucial due to the famous carnival in Trinidad and Tobago, which could have potentially disrupted operations.
